Devotion to Our Lady of Lourdes

Popular Faith and Contemplation: The Votive Shrine and Rural Devotion

Inside the farmhouse, there is a votive shrine. It is dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes. The statue dates back to 1950. Next to it is a small chapel. The place was a destination for pilgrimages. Faithful arrived from Cerignola, Stornara, and Canosa di Puglia. The devotion was an expression of popular faith. Protection was sought for the crops and the family. Spirituality accompanied rural life.

The sculpture from 1950 was solemnly blessed by the parish priest of Stornara of that time, an event that confirmed the importance of this sacred place for the entire community. This place of worship became a key reference point especially for the women of the estate and neighboring farms, who gathered regularly in front of the votive shrine to recite the rosary and pray together, uniting their voices at sunset after long hours of toil. The presence of these sacred spaces within the structure demonstrates how the religious dimension was inextricably linked to the daily management of the property, offering comfort against weather uncertainties and the trends of agricultural seasons. Pilgrims arriving from neighboring towns found the farmhouse to be not only a point of prayer but also a place of welcome and rest. This profound devotion united landowners, permanent farmers, and seasonal laborers, turning the chapel and the votive shrine into the ideal guardians of field labor, livestock health, and the peace of those who lived on these lands.
