Discover our Farmhouse: A Tale of Stone, History, and Hospitality
Masseria Posticciòla represents one of the most significant testaments to nineteenth-century Apulian rural architecture. Born from a learned and rigorous planning, the structure stood out from common spontaneous farms due to its imposing monumentality in local tuff stone and limestone. This monumental complex was not merely a center for agricultural production, but a true logistical and economic hub. Under the enlightened leadership of Count Pavoncelli of Cerignola, a famous senator and promoter of the monumental Apulian Aqueduct, the farmhouse played a central role in coordinating, centralizing, and controlling a dense network of smaller neighboring farms, precisely managing the bringing in of the fruits of the land and the storage of grain in the historic underground grain pits.
This territory guards a profound bond with time and with travelers of every era. The estate stands along the ancient route of the royal sheep track known as the Regio Tratturello Ponte di Bovino-Cerignola, an area of extraordinary value where the historical transhumance of shepherds overlaps with a highly significant archaeological site from the Neolithic period, famous for its entrenched villages. Furthermore, for centuries, these walls have bordered the Via Francigena, offering refreshment and shelter to the travelers of the past just as to the modern walkers practicing slow travel. The collective life that once united entire farming families during the wheat harvest or the olive harvest, and the spirituality centered around the small chapel and the votive shrine, come back to life today thanks to a careful conservative restoration funded by the European Union.
Today, Masseria Posticciòla opens its doors to visitors, tourists, and school groups, inviting everyone to experience an exclusive guided tour inside the structure. Private visitors and organized groups can immerse themselves in a unique cultural itinerary, walking among period geometries and discovering the historical anecdotes of this great enlightened estate. For educational institutions, we offer tailored educational itineraries focusing on the agrarian history and the extraordinary rural architecture of Apulia, with up-close examinations of our imposing groin vaults and underground grain preservation systems. We look forward to welcoming you for an unforgettable journey where the grandeur of the past meets the versatility of the present.
